The capital is called Valletta and is crammed full of Maltese cafes of cool and boutiquey bars of understated style. Something that is much lacking in the European search for a cheapish sun drenched short break in a city.

Stay in the newly re-furbished Feliix Street Apartment for £195pp and you certainly won’t feel ripped off. It’s got high ceilings and is decked out with the latest in high tech mod cons including a super loud sound system. The decor for the bathroom is Moroccan, which according to cool people, is the new chic styling for any discerning fashion conscious couple.

If you’re party is a cool quartet then fear not. The sofa turns with ease into a very comfortable second bed, beware of the sunken bath however. Falling into that at night after a few too many herbal teas is both easy and embarrassing.
