All you need to know about Northern Ireland holidays

Northern Ireland may not be the most obvious of holiday destinations. You’re unlikely to get a suntan no matter what time of year you visit but, if it’s adventure, culture or socialising that you’re after, you’ll find that Northern Ireland holidays have much to offer.

Belfast is Northern Ireland’s biggest city, with a population of almost 600,000 people. The city may have had a troubled past, but was recently listed by American travel guidebook Frommer’s as one of the Top 12 Destinations to visit. The city was the starting point of the legendary ship The Titanic and there are a number of exhibitions dedicated to the story of the ill-fated ship.

Positioned on the mouth of the River Lagan, Belfast is surrounded by magnificent mountains that afford the city a wonderfully picturesque backdrop. If you’re prepared to stray beyond the capital, you’ll find an abundance of other natural landmarks, such as the Giant’s Causeway in Co. Antrim and Slieve Croob in Co. Down.

Another part of Northern Ireland that’s an ideal spot for holidaymaking of a more peaceful persuasion is Armagh. The city is home to two cathedrals, both named after St. Patrick, as well as an eighteenth century observatory and a recently refurbished planetarium.
