Cornwall is the perfect weekend break destination
If you are about to take your first trip to Cornwall, one thing is for certain – it won’t be your last. The UK’s southernmost county is the ideal place for a weekend getaway, whether you love exploring the great outdoors, sampling delicious local cuisine or browsing places of interest. Its sandy shoreline of 300 beaches, enveloped by the Atlantic Ocean, makes a stunning sight and, coupled with the dramatic lighting so often experienced, the area has understandably been a magnet for artists and poets for generations. Start off with a bracing walk, cycle ride or horse riding trip and who knows? You might just find your creative side, too! As for surfers and watersports fans, the big blue is one great adventure waiting to happen. Experts in kayaking, canoeing and waterskiiing will have plenty to do in Cornwall, while those willing to take the plunge and learn some skills can choose from a range of instructors. While no trip would be complete without at least one bite of a Cornish pasty, or a scone with jam and Cornish clotted cream, the county has built a reputation for top quality seafood and fine dining. Local vineyard Camel Valley beat off competition from more than 40 nations to scoop a top award for its champagne at the 2010 International Wine Challenge. If you love nothing better than visiting attractions, Tate St Ives offers excellent contemporary art displays, while collectors may also enjoy perusing the numerous small galleries dotted around the county. Get a feel for Cornish history at Lanhydrock House and Pendennis Castle. And of course, the iconic Land’s End is a great photo opportunity for any weekend visitor! |
