Cuba: sun, sea and Socialist propaganda in Old Havana While most Cubans were forbidden to leave the island it didn't stop people visiting, and with good reason; it's a truly beautiful island, and Havana is a truly gorgeous city, especially Old Havana, right in the historic centre of this historic city.Old Havana is heaving with architectural beauty; not surprising considering the Spanish founded the place way back in 1519. Even less suprising is the fact it's an official UNESCO World Heritage site, so be prepared for some loveliness that your eyeballs must sorely need after staring at a computer screen all day long. My personal favourites to visit are the Museum of the Revolution, which used to be the Presidential Palace until uncle Fidel got his hands on it, and La Cabana fortress on the east side of Havana Bay (what can I say, my girlfriend is a military historian). Plaza De Armas is also very nice, but will be the most packed full of tourists in an area with a pretty heavy camera to person ratio.
