Moscow has four main airports, namely Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Bykovo.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the busiest of Moscow’s airports. It is located 19 miles northwest of the city centre which can be reached in about 30 to 40 minutes by bus, train or shuttle services. Tickets for the express bus to downtown Moscow cost approximately 0.50GBP, tickets for the shuttle bus cost around 1.20GBP.

Domodedovo International Airport is the second busiest airport in Moscow. It is located 21 miles south of Moscow. From the airport you can reach the city centre in a number of ways using public transportation. There’s the Aeroexpress high-speed train that takes approximately 45 minutes, the Commuter train that takes just over an hour, Express and shuttle buses which depart every 15 minutes and take about 30 minutes, as well as taxis.

July and August are the peak tourist season in Moscow, so if you intend to visit at this time of the year you should start looking for flights well in advance if you want to grab a decent deal. Late spring and early autumn are good times to visit Moscow and it is fairly easy to find cheap flights for that time of the year. The approximate flight duration from London to Moscow is just under four hours and fares start from around 200GBP return in economy class.
