Feed your head and your stomach in Liverpool When early rock 'n' roll records came to England, they almost invariably came through Liverpool. These days Liverpool is more famous for street gangs and the football club that bares its name, but we won't be talking about them. Oh no.However, Liverpool is actually a very attractive city, and as long and you don't go hanging around Everton Valley after dark you'll have a grand old time. You can start your stay by taking in some art at the Walker Art Gallery on William Brown Street, which showcases an awful lot of art from the medieval to early Renaissance period, and plenty of more modern works as well, including stuff from masters like David Hockney. Admission is free, as it should always be and will feed your head before you go out to feed your stomach. Speaking of which, I recommend that you get a table at Bistro Jacques on the corner of Hardman Street and Hope Street, right near the theatres and University. It serves up classic French cuisine at very good prices (roast loin of pork with sweet potato mash is only £10.90) and is very handily located for some decent night life. The website also has a very catchy little tune, which has me jigging in my chair. |
