Fly to America upper class without the upper class prices

In the era of low cost flights, it's become easy as pie to book up a flight to anywhere in mainland Europe and get yourself off somewhere far away from the office, from the bleeping phones and the inane chatting of the marketing bod who just can't help telling people he'd like to 'touch base' in his emails. No frills, but you're out of there fast.

However, transatlantic flights still seem a bit more daunting, especially with the Customs people at American airports being such disagreeable human beings. It's also true that you wouldn't want to sit on a low cost plane for over six hours, so why not get out to the States in a bit of style? Virgin Atlantic have a 25th birthday sale, with upper class flights going for relatively puny sums.

For instance, if you fancy flying to New York in the lap of luxury, it will set you back £1099. Now, I know you're asking me what kind of non-millionaire is going to pay that much for a flight, but it's seriously worth it at that price. Just check out the menu, or the lovely beds they give you to kip on, or the ground transfers that mean you don't have to call your taxi driver friend to pick you up at half five in the morning. You don't even have to pack your toothbrush. If you ever have the cash (or a big enough expense account), try it. You won't regret it.
