Hop into a London Taxi!

Black cabs are everywhere in London. To hop on one just hail the driver in the street or go to a designated taxi rank, usually found close to tube, bus or rail stations. Before hailing make sure the yellow taxi sign is lit up. That means the taxi is available for hire. You can also book a cab in advance over the phone with an extra 2GBP charge.

The black cabs can carry up to five passengers plus luggage. There is a minimum charge of 2.20GBP at all times on London cabs. After that prices are metered and fares are based on the time of the day, the distance travelled and the taxi speed. Nowadays most taxis accept credit card payments, with an additional charge between 10% and 15% on the total fare, but always check with the driver before you drive off if that is your intended payment method.
