Donegal is Ireland's northern gem and its budget hotel options make it the perfect holiday destination. Donegal is an often overlooked area in Ireland. It shouldn't be. It is a rugged, gorgeous and poetic place that will reward anyone who takes a chance on it.

Take the risk, and glorious beaches, spectacular scenery, brilliant fishing, a vibrant night-life, historic castles and fortresses and some of Ireland's best food will be your reward. This is the perfect place to have a pint of Guinness in front or the fire after a hike that will remain with you for the rest of your life.

And the best bit is that there is no need to break the bank to explore this most remote corner of Ireland. There are numerous budget hotel options that won't leave you feeling that you missed out. They may be cheap but they are still amazing! And there's nothing like a smaller hotel to really give you a feel for a place.

Our first Donegal hotel is located near the town centre, from whence the county got its name. Donegal town is a stones throw from some of Ireland's best beaches and right beside Donegal Castle. It is the perfect base for any visit. Our pick of the bunch near town is the Blue Stack Centre Hostel which is only a five minute drive form the town and sits right at the foot of the Bluestack Mountains. It's cheap, cheerful and fun.

Next up, is the rather more remote five-star Errigal Hostel. This is a gorgeous hostel that is sat right at the foot of Donegal's highest mountain, Mt. Errigal, and is perfectly situated right on the Ulster Way. There are fishing villages and beaches in the vicinity as well. This is the perfect place for anyone who love the outdoors!
