See the real Cyprus in Limassol

It was also conquered by the Ottomans before the Brits took over, and was ruled by them for over three centuries. As a result the island is a nice melting pot of cultural influences, and tensions.

Now you'd probably expect me to say 'sod it, go to Ayia Napa and get trollied', but Cyprus has more to offer than that, especially in the Limassol region. The ruins of Kourion were extremely interesting, and everything you'd expect from an archaeological site; Roman baths, amphitheatre and with wonderful views of the sea. Be warned that the site is very exposed to the sun, so take water and sun cream if you're going in the summer, but seeing as it's only €1.70 to see the site, I'm sure you'll have some spare cash to stop your skin from peeling off.

On a more luxurious tip, the Lambouri Winery is well worth a cheeky visit. The governor, Mr Lambouri, has a cellar with over 100,000 bottles of tasty goodness, and he's willing to show you it. Best of all, he's willing to let you go on a tasting tour as well. Make sure you stock up too, as you can only buy his stuff on location, and we wouldn't want to waste a chance to get tiddly would we?
