Snow train it round France

With absolutely no pun intended how cool does a snow train sound? There’s a train that runs from Paris all the way to the French Alps. It’s called the Rail Europe Snow Train and it is so much fun it should be illegal.

There are no baggage restrictions on the snow train so you can take as much as you can carry but be careful because with loads of ski’s and boards, getting between platforms in a hurry can prove to be quite tricky. Jump off the Eurostar and on to the snow train and let it hurtle you down an icey track at 140km/ph toward your mountainous destination.

The speed and the ice sound like a scary combination but that won’t matter once you kick off your ski boots, exchange them for your disco boots and head to the disco carriage. That’s right a disco carriage. Completely soundproofed and super loud. The shaking disco carriage will have even the silkiest of dancefloor prowlers falling about like drunk elephants. It really is hilarious.

Sleeping arrangements on board are six bed couchettes which are really good if you're sharing with people you know or the people you share with aren’t boring old farts. That aspect is really hit and miss but on the whole a good time is had by all. If you are finding it a struggle though, just look out the window at the beautiful scenery and remind yourself it’s just a means to an end. And with any luck the the return journey will be more fruitful.

Food wise, it’s best to take your own food. There’s no food carriage on board which is fair enough if the train builders had to choose between having a food or disco carriage. Little picnic’s are always nice anyway and the bed’s fold back to make little tables for games of cards and whatnot.

The price, unlike the scenery is not pretty. Starting at £229 per person this isn’t exactly the perfect option during these times of economic uncertainty and crunchy credit. If however you just won the lottery and fancy spending it on not only a ridiculous holiday but also a downright brilliant mode of transport then this is for you.
