Venice city breaks

Venice is one of the most famous cities in Europe. When people think of Venice the first thing that usually springs to mind is the city's iconic canals. Winding through the city, the canals give Venice such a unique character that it is often described as the most beautiful city built by man. However there is lots more to do and see in Venice than just the city's water system.

There is always something going on in Venice and this is why it is perfect for a city break. The biggest event of the year is in Febuary when the city goes wild for the Carnival of Venice, which lasts for ten days, and is an intoxicating display of life and colour. In May they celebrate Ascension Day called La Festa della Sensa, the wedding day between Venice and the Sea. Also in May is the rowing marathon around Venice and its lagoon called Vogalonga. From June to October the International modern art-exposition called Biennale attracts different artists and visitors from all over the world.

Venice is full of places to visit and has many museums, churches, bridges and palaces that make exploring the city a true pleasure. Some of the places that are not to be missed on a city break to Venice are the Rialto Bridge, Piazza san Marco and St Mark's Basilica.
